Efforts to evacuate Serbian citizens from Sudan continue

23. Apr 2023.
Speaking about the evacuation of citizens of the Republic of Serbia from conflict-torn Sudan, Acting Assistant Minister for Consular Affairs Ambassador Mirjana Živković said on Dnevnik 2 of the Radio Television Serbia (RTS) that, of the 28 Serbian citizens who had reported to the Evacuation Crisis Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 11 were on their way home.

“A total of 11 citizens were evacuated from Khartoum today, of which four citizens were evacuated by a United Nations convoy, six by a United Arab Emirates convoy, while another Serbian citizen was evacuated by a convoy organised by the Republic of Türkiye”, stated Ambassador Živković.

As regards the remaining citizens of the Republic of Serbia who are still in waiting for their evacuation, Ambassador Živković.said that, after the last week’s talk between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Ivica Dačić and Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Catherine Colonna, when Minister Dačić asked for help in the evacuation, Serbia had received assurances that those Serbian citizens would be on a French evacuation convoy.

“Since the Internet is down in Khartoum, and local telephone lines are not working either, our communication with our citizens is difficult, and we don’t know if they have managed to reach the French Embassy”, said Minister Živković. She added that other possibilities for evacuation were also being considered, and that the public would be timely informed thereof.
