Djuric: Serbia's ultimate goal is full membership of the EU and nothing less
Speaking about the process of accession of the Western Balkans to the European Union, Djuric said that in order to solve all the challenges faced not only by our region, but also by Europe as a whole, we needed to pool all our resources.
"If we want the region to be fully integrated, we need to join forces in advocating for the admission of the region to the European Union, regardless of the differences among us", Minister Djuric underlined.
He pointed out that many in the Western Balkans were under the impression that in certain political circles there was a principle of "one in, one out", when it comes to EU enlargement, which affected the public's perception of the enlargement process.
"By 2027, Serbia plans to complete all major legislative, economic and political reforms required for joining the European Union. Our priorities are very clearly set. In addition, Serbia wants to continue to be a factor of stability and help preserve peace in the region", the head of Serbian diplomacy emphasized, underlining that this could only be achieved in cooperation with Brussels and other parties in the region.
Furthermore, Djuric pointed out that Belgrade was making decisions independently, striving to harmonize its policies as much as possible with the common foreign and security policy of the European Union on the path to achieving full membership.
"We want full membership as the ultimate goal and nothing less. There will be no compromise on that issue", the Serbian Foreign Minister said.
When it comes to political relations in the region, Djuric noted that there were still unresolved issues from the 1990s, and that serious efforts would be needed to resolve these issues in a fair way, including the full commitment and support of the highest European representatives.
