First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, met today with Ambassador of Ireland, Iseult Fitzgerald, who covers Serbia from Athens on a non-residential basis.

Ambassador Iseult Fitzgerald congratulated First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić on his recent appointment and wished him success in future work.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić assessed bilateral relations between the two countries as good, but added that there is room for further improvement of both cooperation and political dialogue at the highest level. In this sense, the head of Serbian diplomacy sent an invitation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, Simon Coveney, to visit Serbia in the coming period.

The two colleagues also discussed the current situation in the Council of Europe, because Ireland currently chairs the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić used the opportunity to inform the Ambassador of Ireland about our views on this matter, as well as to reiterate that the Republic of Serbia strongly opposes the membership of the so-called Kosovo in international organizations.

Ambassador of Ireland reiterated their support to Serbia in the European integration process.

Other forms of cooperation were also discussed, especially strengthening the economic cooperation and foreign trade exchange between the two countries.
