ENTERING AND LEAVING THE COUNTRY
Citizens of the Republic of Serbia require a visa to enter Guatemala. For visas and other information contact the Embassy of Guatemala in Rome.
Obtaining a visa or tourist pass at border crossings is not possible. The duration of validity of the passport for tourist travel must be 6 months, and the same condition applies to regulating residence.
Citizens holding a valid US visa are exempt from the obligation of obtaining a visa.
Money in excess of USD 10,000 must be declared. Border control bodies are to be presented with evidence on having funds (cards or traveller’s cheques) to the amount of USD 50 per day of stay.
A permit must be obtained to import hunting weapons.
Pets may be imported under the condition of presenting a certificate by a Serbian veterinary institution about the health status and rabies vaccination.
The import of food is prohibited.
SOCIAL SECURITY AGREEMENT
No social security agreement has been signed.
USEFUL INFORMATION
HEALTH SITUATION – The overall sanitary situation is good. There are no mandatory vaccines, or recommended vaccinations. Travel health insurance is recommended.
It is recommended to consume bottled water and avoid food at street stalls. Caution should be exercised in tropical regions against insect bites, particularly mosquitoes, transmitting contagious diseases. The use of repellents is recommended.
SECURITY SITUATION – The risk of crime is high, requiring increased caution. Tourist areas are mainly safe and protected. It is not recommended to wear jewellery in the street, nor to visit peripheral areas.
Although the area is seismically unstable, earthquakes are not frequent, but volcanoes are always active. The rainy season lasts from June to September. Light clothing is recommended throughout the year (the temperature does not fall below 20 degrees Celsius).
TRANSPORT – The most important airports are Aurora, Puerto Quetzal, Santo Tomás de Castilla, and Petén (Tikal). There is no railway transport.
Motor vehicles may be driver using Serbian driver’s licences. It is not necessary to hold an insurance policy against liability, but it is recommended.
OTHER – The local currency is the quetzal (GTQ). All international credit cards can be used.
