Successful Evacuation Operation Organized from Sharm El Sheikh

The Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs successfully organized the return of a total of 67 citizens of Serbia, as well as citizens of Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Slovenia who had been evacuated from the State of Israel. They safely arrived in Belgrade on a special flight operated by Air Serbia from Sharm El Sheikh.

State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Damjan Jović, who traveled to Egypt to coordinate the operation, emphasized that Serbia’s diplomatic and consular missions are working around the clock in the interest of Serbian citizens.

Jović stated that it is the obligation of the state to care for its citizens in all circumstances, both in good times and in difficult ones, and that this was precisely the reason for organizing the evacuation flight for citizens who found themselves in areas affected by the war. He noted that the flight was not intended exclusively for Serbian nationals, but that several citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Croatia, and Slovenia were also on board.

According to him, although the matter is humanitarian in nature, through this gesture the Republic of Serbia wishes to send a clear message that it strives for the best and closest relations, based on solidarity, with neighboring countries.

Jović emphasized that all state institutions—from the President of the Republic and the Government of Serbia to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic-consular missions—are working around the clock in order to preserve as many lives of Serbian citizens as possible and to mitigate potentially harmful effects on the interests of the state.

He added that the task is not easy under the current circumstances, but expressed confidence that, through good organization, the set objectives will be achieved.

He also took the opportunity to thank the national airline Air Serbia, without whose support, as he noted, it would not have been possible to carry out the evacuation so quickly and efficiently, emphasizing that this is yet another confirmation of the importance of the national airline for the state and its citizens.
