Starović: Important Message of President Vučić about Necessity to Preserve Peace

22. Aug 2022.
State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nemanja Starović said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić sent an important message when speaking about how much we needed to preserve peace and stability, regardless of the challenges that were the result of a hazardous, gambling approach of Mr. Albin Kurti.

As a guest at Happy Television, the State Secretary Starović explained that Mr. Kurti was the one who cheated on the Rubicon and threw the dice hoping that it would fall on the side that best suited him.

"Kurti clearly intended to provoke an escalation, believing that the geopolitical circumstances were in his favour, that the countries of the West would always stand on his side and support all that he did. The approach he has taken is dangerous. We have to be the party that is responsible and conscientious and need to always rethink -  but at the moment when we are left no choice, we have to be decisive and set a clear red line for the safety of our people in Kosovo and Metohija," Starović said.

As the State Secretary Starović stressed, the six points presented by Kurti revealed how far apart the positions of Belgrade and Priština were and how far Kurti's intentions were from reality and common sense.

State Secretary Starović said that Kurti's behaviour was very dangerous and risky and that Kurti reckoned that whatever he did in terms of endangering the peace, it would pay off and he would enjoy the pre-assumed support of the West.

"I am not sure that this is so. President Vučić said that he could not claim with certainty that all the Quint states were supporting Kurti. In the end, they would support their child, but not all Quint states were the inspirations of such behaviour of Kurti’s. Like an infant, he is trying to test the limits, to see how far he can go and count on the pre-assumed support of the West," said Starović.

State Secretary Starović said that Kurti did not understand the significance of peace and stability and how much we all would have to lose if peace was jeopardized.

State Secretary Starović noted that the administration of American President Joseph Biden had a slightly higher level of understanding that peace and stability must be preserved, as opposed to other representatives in Brussels and added that on 31 July, when we had the highest tensions in the past 11 years in the north of Kosovo, we would not have had de-escalation if it hadn’t been for the American ambassador in Priština, Jeffrey M. Hovenier.

State Secretary Starović pointed that the special militarized, mono-ethnic Albanian units that exercised brutal and raw force against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija had nothing to claim in the north of Kosovo and Metohija according to all the agreements of the past 11 years.

According to him, the Albanians had pledged that special forces would not be in the north of Kosovo and Metohija without the consent of Kfor and the four mayors of municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija.

"The Albanians are transforming former UČK fighters into ROSU units. It is unacceptable that special militarized Albanian forces are deployed in the north while there is a local police force with clear responsibilities," Starović stressed.

State Secretary Starović noted that special Albanian units were deployed in armoured vehicles, took over the regular work of the police force without any real explanation and intimidated the Serbs, all with the ultimate goal of starting a new wave of emigration, which we would not allow.

According to State Secretary Starović, the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, who are under the great pressure from Kurti and his special forces, need to show unity, determination, responsibility and discipline in order not to allow the realization of Kur's plan and not to fall for his provocations.

State Secretary Starović said that Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija had a high level of trust in Kfor, whose members are the last barrier to prevent the militant forces of Kosovo Albanians from carrying out their agenda of ethnic cleansing against the Serbs.

State Secretary Starović, however, stressed that, in the case of repeated scenario of 31 July and a new attempt to implement unilateral measures and install barricades by Priština, the big question was how Kfor would react and whether they would provide support to the Albanians, take a neutral position or fulfil the aim of their mission, which is to protect unarmed civilians against the terror of Priština.

State Secretary Starović said that since 2017, 23 countries had withdrawn the recognition of the so-called "Kosovo" and that the fact that far less than half of the UN member states recognized the so-called "Kosovo" prevented Priština from gaining observer status in the UN.

According to State Secretary Starović, the campaign to withdraw the recognition of the so-called "Kosovo", which was successful in every sense, would continue and our moves would be appropriate response to the moves made by Priština.
