Serbia and Algeria bound by traditional decades-long friendship

30. May 2022.
Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selaković met with the new Ambassador of Algeria Fatah Mahraz.

Minister Selaković stated that Serbia and Algeria were bound by traditional decades-long friendship and historical relations, representing a good legacy.

Minister Selaković added that Serbia wanted the relations between the two countries to progress continuously, especially in terms of political dialogue, exchange of visits at a high and the highest level, and economic cooperation. To facilitate this, he expressed his readiness to visit Algeria this year, especially having in mind that Serbia and Algeria were marking 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Minister Selaković thanked Algeria for its principled and consistent support for preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia. He expressed his expectation that such support from Algeria would remain unchanged and that Serbia and Algeria would continue successful cooperation at the multilateral level as well.

Minister Selaković pointed out that Algeria was Serbia`s largest economic partner in the region of North Africa, and that there was a lot of untapped potential for strengthening economic cooperation and trade relations between the two countries. To that end, he said that it would also be important to discuss the re-establishment of a direct flight between Algiers and Belgrade.
