Selaković: We will fight against hypocrisy and for the truth for as long as we live

The Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikola Selaković, said today that Serbia was forced to react to the shameless decision of the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, which prohibited President Aleksandar Vučić from visiting Jasenovac, and said that Serbia and the Serbian people will continue to fight for the truth about the tragic moments in our history.

Selaković, during his appearance on Pink, highlighted that President Vučić was banned from going to Jasenovac not only in capacity of the President of Serbia, but also as a man whose ancestors died there. According to him, someone is anxious about the truth behind Jasenovac, its historical significance for the Serbian people, as the largest extermination site, and a stain in the history of the neighbouring Croatian people.

“Their main problem is the personality of our president; he is a nightmare for them, being the grandson of the man they killed in Jasenovac, murdered in the Nazi collaborationist regime of the Independent State of Croatia, he is a man whose family's homes were burned both in 1941 and 1991, he is a man who for thirty years refuses to stay silent about the truth and the painful story of the suffering of the Serbian people,” Selaković said.

The head of Serbian diplomacy explained that President Vučić is a man who is focused on the future, but he is also the one who spreads the truth, who has begun to cultivate a culture of memory, and that he is hated because he speaks openly and without reservation about how much sacrifice the Serbian people have made in the First and Second World War.

“It is important to nurture the culture of remembrance, so that we may remember our history, our suffering, pain, but also victories and bright and good moments, because if we do not pass that memory on to our descendants, our descendants will be told in ten years that the Serbs went to the Jasenovac death factory willingly," Selaković pointed out.

"Ironically, even though over 70 members of the Tesla family were killed by the Ustasha regime, their two gravestones demolished and their house burned down, and where he himself would have been murdered by them had he been there, there are currently events where they celebrate the Croatian scientist Nikola Tesla. We will fight against such hypocrisy and for the truth for as long as we live," concluded Selaković.
