Selaković spoke with António Guterres
Minister Selaković and Secretary-General Guterres discussed, among other things, today's Security Council session, and the Minister pointed out that continuous consideration of the situation in Kosovo and Metohija before this body was essential both for Serbia and for the international community.
In the context of protecting Serbia`s territorial integrity and sovereignty, Minister Selaković underlined that the UN was the most important international organisation for Serbia, emphasising that the continued UNMIK engagement, unabated and with an unchanged mandate, was crucial.
Minister Selaković informed the Secretary-General about the frequent attacks on Serbs, their property and facilities of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and said that these incidents unequivocally indicated the threat to the Serbian people and the fragile security situation in the province.
Minister Selaković reiterated that Serbia was absolutely committed to preserving peace and security and would continue to insist on the protection of the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija.
During the conversation, Minister Selaković paid special attention to the problem of internally displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija.
Minister Selaković informed Guterres about the situation in the region, emphasising that Serbia was consistently a pillar of political stability in the West Balkans.
As he pointed out, Serbia made its full contribution to the UN activities and preservation of international peace by participating in the UN missions around the world, and added that Serbia was the third in Europe with more than 260 blue helmets and the first in the region in contributing to the UN peacekeeping forces.
