Selaković: Continuous UNMIK involvement key to consistent implementation of the Resolution 1244
Minister Selaković highlighted the importance of a continuous discussion about the issue of Kosovo and Metohija in the UN Security Council, noting that it allowed the international community to be regularly and transparently informed on the situation on the ground, status of the Serb and other non-Albanian populations, rule of law, observance of human rights, protection of cultural and religious heritage, etc.
He expressed his deep concern about the status of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, listing specific examples of Pristina’s unilateral and inimical actions.
Minister Selaković noted that such unilateral, hostile actions by Pristina were increasingly jeopardising the peace and stability in the region, and expressed his hope that these clearly stated facts would be reflected in the Secretary-General’s report on the activities of UNMIK which would be presented to the UN Security Council on 20 April.
Congratulating Ms. Ziadeh on her appointment, Minister Selaković expressed his belief that she would contribute to the continuation of the presence and role of UNMIK in Kosovo and Metohija, and to an improvement of all segments of UNMIK’s activities.
He said that Serbia insisted on the necessity of a consistent observance of the UN Security Council Resolution 1244, highlighting that it was of key importance for UNMIK to continue its activities in undiminished scope and with unchanged mandate.
Minister Selaković stated that Belgrade was fully committed to its dialogue with Pristina. He emphasised that Belgrade had fulfilled its obligations, but Pristina was constantly failing to meet its own, including the obligation to create favourable conditions for the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
