Mr Selaković spoke with the representative of the OSCE for media freedom

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selaković had a meeting today with the OSCE representative for media freedom, Teresa Ribeiro.

Selaković said that Serbia had been giving great importance to the issue of media freedom and cooperation with the OSCE representative for this area, at the same time informing the interlocutor that our government was making great efforts in the implementation of the Action Plan for the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of the Public Information System for the period 2020-2025.

In this regard, Selaković stated that in the drafting of these documents, as well as in their implementation, Serbia received significant expert assistance from the OSCE, particularly pointing out that the OSCE Mission in Serbia actively participated in the drafting of the Media Strategy and the Action Plan, and that now, as an observer, he participated in the activities of the Working Group for monitoring the implementation of the Action Plan for the implementation of the Media Strategy, as well as in the work of the Government's Working Group for the Safety and Protection of Journalists.

When it comes to the Working Group for the Safety and Protection of Journalists, the Minister said that, among other things, it had the task of increasing the efficiency of response in cases of attacks on journalists, and emphasised that the Prime Minister had invested a lot of energy and credibility in this topic.

Finally, Selaković stated that further amendments to the media laws in accordance with the Action Plan would continue after the establishment of the Government of Serbia, and that the issue of the rule of law and democratic freedoms would be high on the agenda of the future government.
