Minister Dačić with McAllister on Serbia’s European integration

The First Vice-President of the Government of Serbia and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić met today with David McAllister, the Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs. The meeting was held as a supplement to today’s EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, where the Head of Serbian diplomacy Dačić participated in the working lunch of the EU Foreign Affairs Ministers with the Western Balkans Foreign Affairs Ministers.

Dačić and McAllister discussed current affairs in Europe and the region, Serbia's EU integration process as well as the Belgrade-Priština dialogue.

The First Vice-President of the Government of Serbia and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić reiterated that the EU membership remained Serbia’s strategic goal as one of its main foreign policy priorities.

Furthermore, he noted that Serbia remained fully committed to the reform process and advancement of all aspects of our society, as well as to the further development of regional cooperation which directly contributed to the building of mutual trust and reconciliation process and encouraged the overall development on our path to the full EU membership.

When speaking about Serbia’s progress on the EU path, McAllister gave a positive assessment on the reform process, as well as on the steps the Government of Serbia undertakes to align its visa regime policy with the EU. He also underscored the importance of further alignment of foreign and security policies. The Head of Serbian diplomacy Dačić said that Serbia had no problem with aligning the EU policies when doing so did not hurt its national interests.

When it comes to the Belgrade-Priština dialogue, the parties agreed that the dialogue and respect of undertaken obligations was the only means to achieve long-term peace and stability. “For Serbia, it primarily means the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities”, Dačić said.
