First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Ivica Dačić visited Uzbekistan today, during the second day of his visit to the countries of Central Asia.

Minister Dačić stated that this first, historic official visit by a Serbian foreign minister to Uzbekistan, marked the first steps towards the intensification of bilateral relations, and added that the relations between the two countries are not encumbered in any way, but that overall cooperation was insufficiently developed.

The head of Serbian diplomacy pointed out that Serbia's goal is to create closer relations with Uzbekistan, since there are great opportunities for cooperation, especially in the field of economy.

He also added that our key task in the coming period is to develop relations in all segments, from political consultations and communications, bilateral meetings at the highest level, to cooperation in the fields of economy, science, education, culture, defence, military industry, security, etc., considering Uzbekistan's position in Central Asia.

Minister Dačić said that there was an understanding between Serbia and Uzbekistan in the political sense, since Uzbekistan supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia.

“I received firm assurances from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sadirov, that Uzbekistan will not change its position on this issue,” Minister Dačić said.

Minister Dačić invited his colleague to his first visit to Serbia, and added that he was expecting their president to accept the invitation by the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, to visit Serbia.

“In that sense, I believe that this visit was useful and that it is only the first step towards further development of our bilateral relations”, Dačić concluded.
