Joint statement from the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and Morocco
The two Ministers welcomed on this occasion the positive dynamics of the political relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Serbia in the wake of the celebration, this year, of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
They welcomed the willingness expressed by both sides to put cooperation between the two countries on the path of a strategic partnership.
Mr. Bourita and Mr. Selaković stressed the importance of giving a strong impetus to the economic cooperation by organizing, during this year, the 3rd session of the Joint Economic Commission in Belgrade.
Mr. Selaković praised the far-reaching reforms undertaken during the last two decades under the Leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the renewed efforts for the political, economic and social development and welcomed the New Development Model of Morocco and the promotion of advanced regionalization.
Morocco and Serbia underlined their positive and constructive role in maintaining stability, security and peace in their respective regions and noted their commitment to these principles, as well as to a peaceful resolution of conflicts and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of States.
Serbia welcomed, in this regard, the role of Morocco as a regional pole of stability and as a relay of growth and development in Africa.
Mr. Bourita praised the results achieved by the Serbian government under the leadership of President Aleksandar Vučić at the national and regional levels, as well as its efforts in the process of accession to the European Union.
Regarding the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, Morocco supports territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia in its internationally recognized borders, as well as the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština under the auspices of EU.
The Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the diplomatic and political efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco to achieve a realistic, pragmatic and lasting political solution to the Sahara issue, in a spirit of realism and compromise and in full compliance with UN resolutions.
In this context, Serbia reiterates its position that the Moroccan autonomy initiative, under Moroccan sovereignty, is a serious and credible solution for the resolution of this issue. The two Ministers welcomed the convergence of views of the two countries on issues of common interest, at the regional and international levels.
