The gathering of the non-aligned increased the reputation and authority of Serbia in the world

The gathering of non-aligned countries, which is being held in Belgrade on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of that Movement, has increased Serbia's reputation and authority in the world, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nemanja Starović, told Tanjug.

He expressed his satisfaction with the good organization of the meeting and added that all foreign ministers who spoke at the event had only words of praise for Serbia and for the way it organized such an important manifestation.

As he said, this additionally assures us that, no matter how difficult some things were in the process of organization, it paid off in the end, because it contributed to the increased reputation and authority of Serbia in the international arena.

Starović added that several hundred bilateral meetings are being held as part of the two-day gathering.

He mentioned that diplomacy is an activity for which physical contact is necessary, and that diplomacy has suffered because of that in the last year and a half, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Starović said that more than 40 foreign ministers came to Belgrade and that many of them could hardly wait to meet with their colleagues from various meridians around the world and exchange opinions.

“This is the most important purpose of this conference, along with everything else in terms of remembering and honouring the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement. We have the opportunity to reaffirm the principles of our foreign policy in numerous bilateral meetings of both the President and other officials and gain the support of our old friends, but also make some new friends that we haven't had so far”, he stated.

He added that a break is currently underway, during which the expansion of the Friendship Park is planned, with the planting of 60 new trees symbolizing 60 years of the Movement, and that the conference will continue as of 4:45 pm with speeches by foreign ministers.
