The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, officially opened the First Diplomatic–Sports Games, which commenced today with a padel competition at the “Sindjelić” Sports Centre. The event brings together representatives of embassies and international organizations based in Serbia.

Minister Đurić emphasized that the Diplomatic–Sports Games constitute an important initiative for fostering connections within the diplomatic community, expressing confidence that the event will become a longstanding tradition.

Noting that Serbia is a country with a strong record of sporting success, he underscored the importance of continued investment in sport and recalled that, owing to state support and the efforts of Aleksandar Vučić, more resources have been invested in Serbian sport than ever before.

Minister Đurić further highlighted his satisfaction that Serbia serves as a venue where representatives of various countries, embassies, and the Ministry can exchange experiences—not only in sport, but also within a broader social context.

He stressed that the aim is to extend the spirit of fair play beyond the playing field and to ensure that the diplomatic corps in Serbia feels both welcome and at home.

The head of Serbian diplomacy wished all participants success in the competitions, adding with a touch of humor that diplomatic immunity does not apply on the field.

“May the best team prevail, and may the spirit of sport triumph,” Minister Đurić stated as he declared the First Diplomatic–Sports Games open.

Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, the Games will run until the end of June. Over the course of the event, fourteen teams—comprising representatives of embassies, international organizations, and the Ministry—will compete in several disciplines, including padel, badminton, basketball, and football.

The opening ceremony and the draw for the competitions were also attended by Anđelko Vučić, who took part in determining the competition groups and pairings. Among the distinguished guests were the Minister of Sport, Zoran Gajić; the President of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, Dejan Tomašević; the President of School Sport of Serbia, Željko Tanasković; as well as the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dušan Kozarev.
