Đurić: Mutual Serbia-Georgia support in the international arena

04. Sep 2024.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Marko Đurić had talks today with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Teimuraz Janjalia.

At the meeting, Minister Đurić pointed out that Serbia and Georgia were bound by sincere friendship, based on mutual trust and respect, recalling that next year our two countries would mark thirty years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Đurić said there was great potential to boost bilateral cooperation, in the economy in particular, and added that the upcoming Specialized Exhibition EXPO 2027, to be hosted by Belgrade, could be an excellent opportunity to bolster economic ties.

Noting that the two countries were facing similar challenges, Đurić underlined that Serbia highly appreciated its cooperation with Georgia in the international arena.

In this context, the collocutors reiterated their firm support regarding mutual respect of territorial integrity and sovereignty as well as regarding the two countries' respective affairs of national significance.

When it comes to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, the Serbian Foreign Minister noted that unilateral decisions by the provisional institutions of self-government in Pristina and Albin Kurti had dramatically violated the rights of the Serb community and that, as a result, a large number of Serbs had moved out of our southern province in the past year alone.

Such conduct by Pristina has been condemned by the entire international community because it is becoming clear to all that complete intimidation and expulsion of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija is the sole objective of Kurti's policy, Đurić underlined.

Minister Đurić also said that Serbia was at the disposal of colleagues from Georgia when it comes to sharing experiences and practices in EU integration, and noted that full EU membership was a strategic commitment of our country.
