Đurić: Italy is one of our most significant economic partners

31. Jan 2025.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, today met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Antonio Tajani, who is visiting Belgrade for the Serbia-Italy Business Forum.

During the meeting, Đurić highlighted that Italy was the first EU member state with which Serbia established a strategic partnership, 15 years ago, describing today’s meeting between Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Minister Tajani as an opportunity to discuss strengthening this partnership at all levels—political, economic, and also cultural and educational.

Acknowledging Italy as one of Serbia's top three trading partners, Đurić assessed that the gathering of business leaders from the two countries confirms their close economic cooperation and serves as a driving force for further enhancing bilateral relations.

The head of Serbian diplomacy reiterated that full EU membership remains the priority of our foreign policy, thanking Italy for its continuous and consistent support of Serbia on this path.

Reminding that Serbia chairs the Central European Initiative (CEI) this year, the oldest regional initiative in this part of Europe, Đurić thanked the Italian side for their support, considering that Italy is the largest contributor to this organization and hosts the Secretariat in Trieste, expressing hope that the intensive cooperation will continue during our presidency.

Regarding Kosovo and Metohija, Đurić pointed to the unilateral actions of the Pristina authorities, which have led to the concerning and alarming violation of the basic human rights of Serbs in our southern province.

In this regard, Đurić stated that Serbia greatly values Italy's presence within KFOR and its efforts to preserve Serbian monasteries and the security of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.

According to the head of Serbian diplomacy, Serbia remains committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region, strengthening its business environment and economy, which Đurić evaluated as one of the conditions for enhancing cooperation and good neighborly relations.
