Đurić confers with Sergey Lavrov in New York

On the margins of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov.

Minister Đurić underlined the prominent level of bilateral relations, reaffirming that Serbia remains committed to further strengthening cooperation with the Russian Federation. 

He emphasized the importance Serbia attaches to maintaining continuous contacts at the highest and high political levels, recalling the recent meeting between the two Presidents in Beijing, at which readiness was confirmed to preserve Serbian–Russian ties and to further advance relations.

Minister Đurić expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation for its principled position and support in safeguarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia, stressing that such support is of exceptional importance bilaterally, and particularly within international organizations. He also welcomed the recent consultations held between the two ministries on cooperation within the UN system.

The ministers discussed the enhancement of bilateral economic cooperation, with particular attention devoted to energy cooperation. They also exchanged views on developments in Serbia and reviewed the current situation in the Western Balkans region.
