The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, met in Washington with Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the senior Democratic member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

Minister Đurić conveyed his firm confidence in the potential for enhancing relations between Serbia and the United States, underscoring the U.S. as one of the Republic of Serbia’s most significant foreign policy partners.

The Serbian Foreign Minister reiterated Serbia’s commitment to further strengthening ties with the United States and advancing toward the strategic partnership to which Serbia aspires.

Đurić briefed Senator Shaheen on the latest developments in Kosovo and Metohija, including the decision of the Central Election Commission to deny the Serb List the right to participate in the upcoming elections—an action that seriously calls into question the democratic character of the process.

According to Minister Đurić, such a move, particularly in the current climate, further complicates the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue and makes the convergence of positions and the search for a compromise solution even more difficult.

The meeting also addressed issues concerning the functioning of the Petroleum Industry of Serbia and possible ways to overcome the challenges in that sector.
