Đurić confers with President of the National Assembly of Benin

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, met in Porto-Novo with the President of the National Assembly of Benin, Louis Vlavonou, for discussions focused on enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

In a constructive and cordial exchange, Minister Đurić expressed his hope that the visit to Benin and meetings with high-level officials would provide new momentum to the bilateral partnership and cooperation.

The discussion placed particular emphasis on the importance of parliamentary cooperation and the continuation of regular dialogue.

Minister Đurić underlined that inter-parliamentary relations represent a crucial dimension of bilateral engagement, capable of further strengthening and intensifying ties between the two nations. In that regard, he highlighted the value of parliamentary friendship groups, voicing his hope that such groups would soon be established in both national assemblies.

He conveyed greetings from the President of the National Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, along with an invitation for the President of the Beninese Parliament to visit Serbia at the earliest opportunity.

“Upon returning to Belgrade, we will formally submit an initiative to establish a Serbia–Benin parliamentary friendship group,” Minister Đurić stated.

The meeting also touched on prospects for enhancing economic cooperation, as well as collaboration in specific sectors such as agriculture, culture, education, and sports.

Speaking about the broader significance of the visit, Serbia’s top diplomat particularly commended the diplomatic efforts of his Beninese counterpart, Foreign Minister Bakari, whom he credited with finding a way to bring the two countries closer together.
