Đurić confers with Japan’s Minister for Economic Security

29. Aug 2025.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, met today in Tokyo with Japan’s Minister for Economic Security and Secretary General of the Japan–Serbia Parliamentary Friendship League, Minoru Kiuchi.

Minister Đurić underlined that economic cooperation between Serbia and Japan represents one of the cornerstones of the overall bilateral relationship, emphasizing Serbia’s openness and readiness to continue the upward trend in trade exchange, to attract further Japanese investment, and to expand the presence of Serbian products on the Japanese market.

It was jointly assessed that the future Agreement on the Promotion and Protection of Investments, expected to be signed in the coming period, will serve as an important legal framework and guarantee for the further expansion of bilateral investment cooperation.

Minister Đurić highlighted Serbia’s pride in its current economic standing and regional position, noting that thanks to responsible economic policies, Serbia has more than doubled its GDP over the past decade and attracted two-thirds of total foreign direct investment in its part of Europe.

It was also noted that contacts between the two business communities have become increasingly frequent and substantial, as demonstrated by last year’s successful visit of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) mission to Serbia, which included the largest Japanese business delegation to date. As the Minister recalled, the visit also featured a major Business Forum in Belgrade, which generated hundreds of meetings between Serbian and Japanese companies and resulted in important agreements on future cooperation.

Congratulating his Japanese hosts on the excellent organization of the ongoing World Expo in Osaka, where Serbia’s national pavilion has already been visited by around 700,000 people, the Serbian Foreign Minister expressed his confidence that the forthcoming specialized expos in Yokohama and in Belgrade in 2027 – as events offering a special opportunity to further connect the two countries – will likewise be successfully organized and well attended.
