Djuric: Anyone who wants to go against Serbia will now think twice
Djuric said that one of the most important results of today's vote in the UN was that anyone who wants to go against Serbia will now think twice.
“On the worst topic, which is the most sensitive and the most difficult to explain, we managed to have 107 countries that were not against us. There is an open space for us to also discuss our interests when it comes to Kosovo and Metohija and many other matters. Friendships that we have gained in this struggle, we will carefully preserve and nurture", Djuric told the reporters in New York after the session.
He announced that Serbia would continue to strengthen its diplomatic ties and institutions, adding that today, despite the pressures, many countries supported Serbia owing to the friendships fostered by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic with world leaders.
"I am very happy that the UN said a collective 'no' to the diktat. Regardless of what the nominal result is, a clear majority did not support this", the head of Serbian diplomacy underlined.
It is important, he says, that Serbia sends the message that it is a country of peace, which respects its citizens of all nationalities and religions.
"That was never questioned, nor was our attitude towards the victims. But we said 'no' to the creation of a hierarchy among the victims, to our and other victims not being valuable and 'no' to putting the mark of genocide and shame on an entire nation equal to the Holocaust and genocide in Rwanda", Djuric pointed out.
He also stated that the vote opened up a large space for four-fifths of humanity not to treat the Resolution the way its creators had intended.
