Delegation of the Republic of Serbia at the World Conference of the Cypriot Diaspora
The State Secretary Starović reminded that the closeness of the Serbian and Cypriot people was especially based on witnessing the violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of their countries, followed by the deep sadness of the Serbian and Cypriot families who had lost their homes.
Starović sent an invitation to the Serbian and Cypriot diaspora to build mutual closeness and trust in their countries of residence, similar to the one that Serbia and Cyprus had nurtured for decades.
During the Conference, a bilateral meeting of the Serbian delegation was held with the Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Overseas Cypriots Fotis Fotiou.
The meeting confirmed the mutually strong friendship of the two countries, with a special focus on cooperation in the field of diaspora. Also, further steps were agreed in order to implement the Memorandum on Cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Cyprus in the field of the diaspora, and the exchange of experience in the manner of organising the diaspora, their mutual connection, as well as the preservation of cultural, linguistic and historical values.
Along with the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the world conference of the Cypriot diaspora was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Nicosia, Marko Blagojević, and the First Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia, Jelena Stojiljković as members of the delegation of the Republic of Serbia.
