State Secretary Nemanja Starović unveiled the monument to Adolf Svatopluk Osvald
In his speech Starović emphasized that Adolf Svatopluk Osvald had laid his live in the foundations of the Serbian-Slovakian friendship, which nowadays represented an oath never to take the brotherhood of the two nations for granted, but to constantly add new contents in the cooperation of the two nations, which Osvald would, beyond any doubt, be proud of.
“There are few countries in Europe which have such close relations as the Republic of Serbia and Republic of Slovakia have”, said Starović.
The State Secretary said that apart from the historic friendship, the Serbian and Slovakian people were related by the same perception of the observance of the international law.
The unveiling of the monument was attended also by the director of the Archives of Vojvodina, Nebojša Kuzmanović and Mayor of Sremska Mitrovica, Svetlana Milovanović-
The Slovakian writer, translator and journalist Adolf Svatopluk Osvald, as a volunteer participated in liberation wars of Serbia against Turkey. He died on 4th July, 1876 as a member of the volunteer unit of the Drina division fighting for Serbia and Serbian people in the battle of Sremska Rača.
