The Serbian Diaspora in Switzerland as a Strong Link Between the Two Countries

25. Apr 2025.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Secretary General Dušan Kozarev met with the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Serbia, H.E. Anne Lugon-Moulin, to discuss opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

It was noted that the well-developed and comprehensive bilateral relations between Serbia and Switzerland are significantly supported by a dynamic and high-level political dialogue, as evidenced by the visit of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, to Switzerland at the end of last year.

As an example of good practice, both sides highlighted the regular political consultations between the two foreign ministries, which provide a platform for the exchange of views on matters of mutual importance.

While briefing the Ambassador on the political challenges facing Serbia following the recent tragedy in Novi Sad, Secretary General Kozarev noted that, following the failure of an attempted color revolution, a number of activists resorted to blocking the public broadcaster—an action that violates not only domestic regulations but also international conventions.

He emphasized that Serbia remains firmly committed to upholding democratic standards and is determined to defend its institutions, public order, and the rule of law—particularly in light of the economic damage caused by the months-long blockades.

In the context of regional cooperation, Kozarev also addressed the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reaffirming Serbia’s dedication to preserving peace and stability in the region and its full respect for the Dayton Peace Agreement, of which Serbia is a guarantor.

Kozarev stated that Serbia remains committed to constructive dialogue with Pristina and insists on the implementation of previously agreed obligations, while, on the other hand, the provisional institutions in Kosovo continue to pursue a policy of intimidation and repression against the Serbian population.

Ambassador Lugon-Moulin praised Serbia’s economic growth, the favorable climate for direct investment, and the country’s progress in the fields of modern technologies, innovation, and start-ups.

She noted that the Serbian diaspora in Switzerland—with a considerable number of highly educated and talented individuals who contribute greatly to Swiss society—represents an important bridge between the two countries and enriches bilateral relations in a unique and meaningful way.
