Relations between Serbia and Japan on a constant rise

Today, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić received the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Takahiko Katsumata and Professor Kunihiko Miyake who delivered a lecture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, organized in cooperation with the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Japan in Belgrade and the International Security Institute as part of the celebration of the 140th anniversary of friendship between Serbia and Japan.

Minister Ivica Dačić thanked Professor Miyake for the visit, expressing satisfaction with the fact that in 2022 we were celebrating the 140th anniversary of the friendship between Serbia and Japan, namely the date of the first diplomatic correspondence between the King of Serbia Milan Obrenović and the Japanese Emperor Meiji in 1882. The Minister Dačić added that we were trying to commemorate that event in the best possible way through the implementation of various activities such as today's lecture delivered by Professor Miyake. Minister Ivica Dačić stressed  that few countries in the world could boast of relations that dated back to the 19th century, with great sympathies and a strong interest in getting to know each other better.

During the discussions, it was commonly assessed that the relations between Serbia and Japan were constantly on the rise and that they were meaningful and multi-layered. The dedication was confirmed to the further strengthening of mutual dialogue, exchange of visits at all levels and connecting the economies of the two countries.

Congratulating Minister Ivica Dačić on his re-appointment, the Ambassador of Japan expressed his expectation that in the coming period we would establish even stronger mutual ties and continue to strengthen comprehensive cooperation through various projects to the benefit of both sides.
