Mutual understanding and significant potential for cooperation between Serbia and Paraguay

10. Dec 2025.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Dušan Kozarev, met in Paraguay’s capital, Asunción, with the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs responsible for political and economic cooperation, Víctor Alfredo Verdún Bitar and Patricia Frutos.

The meeting underscored the high level of mutual understanding, grounded in shared historical experiences and the freedom-loving and balanced foreign policy orientations of the two nations. Particular emphasis was placed on Paraguay’s unwavering principled position in support of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and its non-recognition of the UDI of Kosovo.

Welcoming the increasingly frequent high-level exchanges, including the recent meeting between Foreign Ministers Marko Đurić and Rubén Ramírez Lescano on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York, the interlocutors agreed that there is considerable room for further strengthening bilateral dialogue—both through the agreed political consultations and through visits by senior officials.

Kozarev highlighted that Expo 2027 would be an excellent opportunity for Paraguayan leaders to witness firsthand Serbia’s comprehensive economic renewal, driven by the vision and policies of President Aleksandar Vučić and the Government of Serbia—particularly in light of the similarly ambitious plans of the authorities in Asunción. He reiterated Serbia’s invitation for Paraguay to participate in this prestigious global event, which Serbia will host.

A range of issues of mutual interest was discussed, including the abolition of visas for holders of ordinary passports, the finalization of agreements on cooperation in the fields of defence and internal affairs, and the significant potential to expand trade and deepen overall economic ties, primarily in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture, and information technologies.

It was concluded that scientific, cultural, and educational cooperation should be further enhanced, for which the “World in Serbia” scholarship programme—open as well to applicants from Paraguay—provides an excellent platform.
