Minister Dačić opens the exhibition of the State Archives of Serbia “Kingdom of Serbia and Japan”
Japan was the first Asian country with which Serbia established bilateral contacts, Their diplomatic communication and cooperation became concrete as soon as in late 19th and early 20th century, while bilateral relations and friendship begun 140 years ago, in 1882, by correspondence between the leaders of the two countries, Serbian King Milan Obrenović and Japanese Emperor Meiji.
The exhibition of the State Archives of Serbia is dedicated to the first few decades of the bilateral relations between Serbia and Japan. Although these early relations were very different from what bilateral cooperation is like today, they are a great illustration not just of the beginnings of the bilateral relations between the two countries, but also of the rich and multi-dimensional nature of the cooperation between Serbia and Japan. This kind of cooperation, friendship and mutual solidarity between our two nations is what we are also striving to encourage and foster today.
