Minister Dačić: Bilateral relations with France on the highest level in the last couple of decades

20. Apr 2023.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić declared today in Paris that Serbia was developing good bilateral relations with France and that, perhaps, those relations had never been on a higher level in the last couple of decades.

After the meeting with French Minster of Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna, he said that the relations between presidents Emmanuel Macron and Aleksandar Vučić were extremely good and friendly, and emphasised that President Macron's visit to Serbia was extremely important and historic.

Minister Dačić underlined that the foreign trade exchange between Serbia and France was growing from year to year and that it equalled EUR 1.6 billion in 2022.

“The French company Vinci is managing our airport, and we are planning a big landfill and metro. In addition, there are hundreds of French companies employing workers in Serbia. France is a big investor in our country and we are trying to improve relations in all segments.  We wish that our agreement on strategic partnership include also a higher level of cooperation and discovering of common interests both on the state and on the national level, and not only in the economic sphere.  In that sense, the upcoming meetings of President Vučić and President Macron will off course be of utmost importance”, said Minister Dačić.

He also said that France expects Serbia to align with foreign, visa, security and defence policy of the European Union.

Minister Dačić expressed views of Serbia to Minister Colonna and said that we must take care of our national, state and economic interests.

Minister Dačić emphasised that one of the reasons for his visit to France was also the fact that delegates of the Bureau International des Expositions would meet today to reach a decision about the host country for the specialized exhibition Expo 2027, for which Serbia would compete with four other towns from Spain, Argentina, Thailand and the USA.

Minister Dačić says that the organization of that exhibition would be very important, because there has been no such event in our region in the past 30 years.
