The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Dušan Kozarev, participated today in the Serbian–Austrian Business Forum, held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia.

In his address, Mr. Kozarev reflected on the strong bilateral cooperation and well-developed political dialogue between the two countries—dialogue to which, he emphasized, Serbia’s leadership, headed by President Aleksandar Vučić, attaches significant importance. He also underlined the shared positions on European integration and regional stability.

He particularly highlighted the excellent economic relations and Austria’s significant contribution to Serbia’s economic development, noting that over 600 Austrian companies currently operate in Serbia, employing approximately 16,000 Serbian citizens.

“We are proud that Austria has chosen Serbia as a destination for investment and business development—across all sectors, from services to infrastructure projects and telecommunications—recognizing it as a leading economic hub in the region,” Kozarev stated, recalling that Austria is Serbia’s third-largest investor, with investments totaling EUR 3.5 billion.

He added that Serbia’s need to modernize its industry and infrastructure has led to the adoption and implementation of Austrian expertise and experience in the process of progress.

“Austria and its companies are among Serbia’s key partners in the development of the dual education system, which is essential for ensuring a competent workforce with specific vocational profiles, particularly to meet the needs of foreign investors. The chambers of commerce of both countries have played a leading role in this long-term initiative, supported by the Austrian Development Agency,” he said.

As for direct investments by Serbian residents in Austria, Kozarev noted they amounted to EUR 163.1 million between 2010 and 2024. Furthermore, the Austrian Business Register currently records 139 companies with Serbian shareholders, making Austria the sixth-largest destination for the placement of Serbian capital abroad.

Kozarev also emphasized the importance and role of the Serbian diaspora, which actively participates in Austria’s public and social life.

“In Vienna—one of Europe’s and the world’s most desirable capitals to live in—our compatriots are the most numerous among foreign communities. They actively participate in various aspects of Austrian society. Among them—numbering over 120,000—are doctors, nurses, lawyers, farmers, and even opera directors,” Kozarev noted, expressing gratitude to Austria for being a gracious host and enabling them to become a meaningful link in advancing their homeland.

The Secretary General also informed participants about preparations for the upcoming Specialized Expo 2027, which has already been confirmed by over 100 participating countries. He emphasized that Belgrade is ready to welcome visitors from around the world and showcase Serbia’s innovative spirit, cultural heritage, and vision for transformation on the global stage.

“We are actively preparing to be worthy hosts and extend an open invitation to all interested parties to take part in this endeavor,” Kozarev concluded.

The Serbian–Austrian Business Forum was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Serbia and the Embassy of Serbia in Austria, with special engagement by Ambassador Marko Blagojević and the support of Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić.

Also participating in the organization were the Representative Office of the Republic of Srpska in Austria and the Austrian–Serbian Business Forum based in Vienna.
