Kozarev confers with the President of the Union of Serbs in Romania and Member of the Romanian Parliament
Krstić provided an overview of the position of the Serbian community in Romania and the activities undertaken by the Union to preserve national identity through various cultural and educational projects. He emphasized that approximately 12,000 Serbs live in Romania, of whom around 10,000 reside in Timișoara and the surrounding area. In this context, he underlined the importance of access to education in the native language, highlighting in particular the “Dositej Obradović” Serbian School in Timișoara, which has around 140 pupils at the primary and secondary levels.
Krstić noted that the participation of members of the Serbian community in Romania’s political life is of great significance in contributing to processes aimed at improving the overall quality of life of Serbs in these areas.
He stressed that the Union maintains excellent cooperation with the competent authorities of Serbia, especially with the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region.
The discussions also addressed Serbia’s readiness to support further strengthening of the political influence of Serbs in Romania, which would directly contribute to advancing bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
The available opportunities for intensifying trade exchange were reviewed, as was the importance of taking concrete steps towards further developing transport and energy infrastructure between Serbia and Romania.
Kozarev reaffirmed the continued readiness of the Government of Serbia to provide support to the Union.
