Jovanović at the 11th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control
In the General Debate, Jovanović reaffirmed the Republic of Serbia’s continued commitment to the implementation and further strengthening of the Convention as one of the key international instruments in the field of public health. In this regard, she emphasized that efforts in tobacco control form an important part of the broader process of protecting public health, the environment, and sustainable development.
In this context, Jovanović also underscored the importance of developing policies and guidelines based on relevant scientific evidence, as well as the need to enhance innovation, monitoring, and international cooperation, particularly in the fight against the illicit trade in tobacco products.
State Secretary Jovanović stressed that decision-making processes within the Convention must ensure transparency, equal participation of all Parties, and full respect for their sovereignty and legal systems. She further highlighted that, when considering individual measures, it is necessary to take into account the potential economic and legal implications for the Parties.
Jovanović concluded by stating that the Republic of Serbia will continue to actively and constructively contribute to the collective efforts under the Convention, with the aim of advancing public health and creating a healthier future for the generations to come.
