Tokyo: The Order of the Republic of Serbia on a ribbon was awarded posthumously to former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe
During the ceremony held at the Embassy, the Ambassador said that, four months and ten days after the tragic murder of former Prime Minister Abe which changed Japan, Serbia wished to offer comfort and send message that his life left deep and indelible traces in Serbia.
She pointed out that 140-years long friendship between Serbia and Japan, to be celebrated this year, was built and developed by numerous individuals who had vision, courage and determination, and that Shinzo Abe was one of them.
She pointed out the importance of his visit to Serbia, which brought new initiatives aimed at the prosperity of Serbia and the region. Today, Japan occupies a high place on the list of foreign investors in Serbia, which is one of Abe's merits, Ambassador Kovač said.
She emphasised that Serbia had recognised and perceived his valuable contribution to the deepening of bilateral relations. As a token of gratitude, Shinzo Abe became the most decorated Japanese citizen by the Republic of Serbia.
The Ambassador expressed her regret that Abe was not personally awarded the high award and emphasised that Shinzo Abe would live forever in our memories and hearts.
