Timisoara: Days of Serbian Culture
The event was opened by the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Bucharest, Stefan Tomašević, emphasising the importance of marking the Day of Serbian Culture as one of the most important activities of Serbs in Romania, with a traditionally rich cultural and artistic programme bringing together Serbs, Romanians and representatives of other communities, as well as strengthening their connection and friendship.
The Ambassador highlighted the excellent cooperation of the Union of Serbs in Romania with the Embassy of Serbia in Bucharest and the Consulate General in Timisoara, listing the most important cultural events that were jointly organised this year, as well as those that would present Serbian culture by the end of the year in Bucharest.
As one of the most significant projects, which is in the preparatory phase of elaboration, Ambassador Tomašević mentioned the construction of a new and modern school building in Timisoara with all accompanying facilities, including a boarding school to which the "Dositej Obradović" Theoretical Grammar School would be relocated, implemented in cooperation with the Embassy and Consulate General with the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Timisoara and great benefactor Dušan Vilms, winner of this year's Gold Medal for outstanding endevour in the preservation of the Serbian national minority and the improvement of economic relations between the Republic of Serbia and Romania, which was awarded to him by President Aleksandar Vučić.
The audience was addressed by: Prefect of Timiș County Mihaj Ritivoju, Deputy Secretary of State for Inter-Ethnic Relations Dinćer Đafer, Advisor to the President of the Timiș County Council Dan Djakonu, Advisor to the Mayor of Timişoara Vasile Srbu, Vice-President of the Union of Serbs in Romania Dejan Popov and Deputy Archbishop of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Timisoara Father Marinko Markov.
The ceremony was attended by adviser to the President of the Republic of Serbia Dejan Savić, adviser to the Vice President of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and Minister of Culture Zoran Vapa, MP Sanja Lakić, director of the Fund for Refugees, Displaced Persons and Serbs in the Region Duško Ćutilo, president of the Union of Serbs in Romania Ognjan Krstić, consul general Vladan Tadić, representatives of local cultural institutions, the consular choir, members of the Serbian community and students of the "Dositej Obradović" Serbian Secondary School in Timisoara.
The film "Once Upon a Time in Serbia" directed by Petar Ristovski was presented, which brought about excellent reactions from the audience.
As part of the Days of Serbian Culture event in Timisoara, 15 different cultural events will be organised by the end of November.
