Skopje: Ambassador Jovanović at the Women in Foreign Policy Conference
Organized for the second year by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, the conference was opened by Deputy Prime Minister Slavica Grkovska and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani.
Ambassador Jovanović presented positive experiences and examples of good practice of the Republic of Serbia regarding gender equality and strengthening the position of women in all spheres of social and political life. She pointed out that Serbia is making efforts to achieve greater representation of women in leadership positions, pointing to statistics in the context of the percentage of women in high positions in the executive and legislative branches in Serbia.
Ambassador Jovanović said that the Republic of Serbia adopted several laws and strategic documents in this area, including the Law on Gender Equality, the Strategy for Gender Equality and the Strategy for Preventing and Combating Gender-Based Violence against Women and Domestic Violence. She pointed out that the Republic of Serbia is supporting a high level of participation of women in foreign policy, which is best illustrated by the fact that of the total number of heads of diplomatic and consular missions, 31 percent are women.
