Seoul: Ambassador Grbić at the Korean Video Game Industry Association (K-GAMES)
The ambassador pointed out that Serbia places great importance on creative industries, including the video game industry, and noted the accelerated development of the information and communication technologies industry in Serbia, including the video game industry (about 130 companies, with 2,200 employees, and revenues reaching 125 million USD).
Ambassador Grbić also talked about the plans to build a Gaming Village in Belgrade, which will be a regional centre of the video game industry, and which could be very interesting for Korean companies and actors in this field.
Choi Song-woo thanked the Ambassador and introduced the K-GAMES organization and activities.
He stated that the Association gathers 70 member companies, with around 80,000 employees in the video game industry, and added that Korea makes up 7% of the global market in this field.
Concerning the education in the video game industry, Ambassador Grbić mentioned the existing programs in Serbia for basic and master studies at the University of Belgrade, which are still in the initial phase. He added that Serbia is interested in cooperation with Korea in this field, since Korea is investing great resources in education in this sector, and that there are already specialized high schools where the necessary knowledge and skills for the video game industry are studied.
The Ambassador proposed to examine the possibilities for Korean experts to visit Serbia as guest lecturers, or to participate in video game conferences, in order to initiate exchange in the education sector. It was agreed to establish direct communication between competent institutions and organizations of the two countries in the field of the video game industry.
