Moscow: Ambassador Babić visited the Serbian language school “Sveti Đorđe”

27. Mar 2022.
Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Moscow Momčilo Babić decided to visit the Supplementary School of Serbian Language “Sveti Đorđe” in his first visit to the Serbian diaspora in the Russian Federation.

During the official visit to Moscow in April 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selaković launched an initiative to reopen the school after almost two decades, which was soon after implemented through the joint cooperation of Director of the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, Arnaud Gouillon and the Embassy of Serbia in Russia.

Ambassador Babić pointed out that the school was reopened in record time after the visit of Minister Selaković, with the devoted support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Serbs in Moscow, and that it could be a source of honour to the Serbian people and their children.

Ambassador Babić said that the Embassy of Serbia would ensure that the school was provided with continuing assistance and pointed out that the children were happy to attend classes and learn their own language and the language of their ancestors, in spite of the fact that the classes take place only on Sundays so as not to interfere with their attendance at regular schools.

The best students were awarded diplomas and recognitions for the achieved results, and Ambassador Babić especially thanked the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selaković, Director of the Directorate Arnaud Gouillon, school coordinator Vesna Simić, teachers Tanja Baranović and Jelena Lalić, as well as the owner of restaurant “Damil” Ranka Ilić, who provided space for the school.

Ambassador Babić expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to attend classes and talk with the youngest Serbs in Moscow, emphasising that President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić would also visit them during his first visit to Russia.

On this occasion, Ambassador Babić also talked with representatives of the Serbian diaspora, as well as with the parents of children who attend Serbian language classes.

Earlier today, the first meeting with members of the Serbian business community in Moscow was held at the Embassy, where conclusions on further cooperation and mutual support of the motherland and the diaspora were reached, as well as on improving economic cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation.
