Mexico: Mexico City landmarks in the colours of the Republic of Serbia national flag
This kind gesture is another acknowledgement of the several-decades-long firm friendship and close relationship that exist between Serbia and Mexico.
This solemn event was organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Mexico and Mexico City. Traditionally, Serbia has had an excellent cooperation with Mexico City, for which it is sincerely thankful.
The following landmarks were illuminated tonight in the colours of the Republic of Serbia flag:
The Angel of Independence, built in 1910 on the occasion of marking 100 years of independence of Mexico, which holds the remains of a number of independence heroes, such as Miguel Hidalgo, José María Morelos, and Ignacio Allende.
The Monument to the Revolution, solemnly inaugurated in 1938, functioning also as the mausoleum for several famous persons from the period during and after the Mexican revolution, such as Pancho Villa, Francisco Madero, Venustiano Carranza, Plutarco Elías Calles, and Lázaro Cárdenas.
Glorieta de la Palma, one of the most recognisable roundabouts along the famous avenue Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City (in its centre is a tall palm tree after which the roundabout got its name).
The Monument to Cuauhtémoc, built in 1887 and dedicated to the last Mexican ruler (tlatoani) of Tenochtitlan (Mexico City today).
The Monument to the Petroleum Industry of Mexico, built in 1952 on the occasion of commemorating the anniversary of the nationalisation of petroleum industry in Mexico (1938).
The fountain of Diana the Huntress, represented by a bronze statue, solemnly revealed in 1942.
The Chapultepec aqueduct ― two aqueducts built by the Aztecs in the 15th century to supply Tenochtitlan with drinking water.
