Doha: First Counsellor Radeka at the World Cup preparatory meeting
The meeting was organised by the supreme body of the State of Qatar in charge of coordinating all activities related to the World Cup. Regular meetings are held on a monthly basis, but they will be held more frequently as the championship approaches.
The topic of the meeting was the transport of guests and fans during the World Cup, since several million visitors are expected to come to Qatar.
It was emphasised that Qatar has invested large funds and that the subway, city buses, as well as numerous taxi vehicles would be used for transport. For the first time spectators will be able to watch several matches in a single day, since all eight new stadiums in which the matches will be played are located relatively close to each other.
“Doha Port” will receive cruise ships, and during the World Cup the second “Doha International Airport” will be operational, in addition to the existing “Hamad” Airport, of capacity of as many as 53 million passengers a year.
Vehicle rentals are not encouraged, as the entire central part of Doha will be closed to traffic, and entry of vehicles from the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia through the Abu Samra border crossing will not be allowed.
