Bratislava: Exhibition “Slovak Naive Art from Serbian Vojvodina” in Martin
The exhibition is organised by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Serbia Mojmir Vrlik, and under the auspices of Jaroslav Hrubik, President of the Municipality of Kovačica, featuring paintings of eight Slovak artists from Kovačica, Padina and Hajdučica: Jan Bachur, Ana Kňazovicová, Pavel Hajko, Zuzana Vereski, Pavel Cicka, Klara Babka, Juraj Ljavroš and Miroslav Hraško.
Chargé d'affaires Barlović pointed out the historical connection between the Serbian and Slovak people and their artistic creativity. She especially emphasised that this year marks the 220th anniversary of the settlement of Slovaks in Kovačica, and added that members of the Slovak national community in Serbia and members of the Serbian national community in Slovakia give a special contribution to the traditional friendship between the two countries. She referred to the important painter Jan Bachur, who had passed away recently, and said that thanks to the naive painters from Kovačica, Padina and other places, the wondrous rural beauty of northern Serbia will forever remain preserved.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by deputy mayor of the city of Martin, the honorary consuls of Poland, Iceland, Chile and Kyrgyzstan in Slovakia, the president of the local board of Matica slovenská v Srbsku Kovačica Pavel Baláž, and numerous representatives of Martin's cultural, social, and economic life, as well as admirers of naive art and friends of Serbia.
