Berlin: Ambassador Janković visits Lusatian Serbs

19. May 2022.
Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Germany Snežana Janković visited the Lusatian Serbs living in the German state of Brandenburg, in the area of Lower Lusatia.

Wishing to establish a closer contact and cooperation with these people, who are very close to the Serbs in terms of the language, customs, and culture, Ambassador Janković visited the city of Guben-Gubin on the German−Polish border and the city of Cottbus, where she talked with the mayors of these two cities and the representatives of the cultural institutions and associations of the Lusatian Serbs.

During her visit to the Museum of Lusatian Serbs in Cottbus, Ambassador Janković saw for herself the great linguistic and cultural similarities the Serbs shared with these people. The talks focused on improving contacts and cooperation, opportunities for presenting the culture of Lusatian Serbs in Serbia, and the Serbian culture in the parts of Germany where the Lusatian Serbs lived.

One of the first activities in this regard will be the visit of a representative of the city of Guben-Gubin to Novi Sad as the European Capital of Culture.
