Ambassador Jovanović: Citizens of Serbia who want to leave Ukraine should contact the embassy
Ambassador Jovanović told the Serbian Radio and Television that yesterday a Serbian family left Ukraine by train, that the trains run free to the west and that all passengers who board these trains can leave Ukraine.
Ambassador Jovanović stated during the same interview this morning that yet another Serbian family left Kiev in a convoy organized by the United Nations, and that the embassy has informed Serbian citizens with whom it is in contact that they can join this convoy and leave Kiev.
"At this moment, the only Serbs that have remained are those that have been living here for 15 or 20 years, that live here with their family, that have nowhere to go or that have moved to the countryside with friends, to vacation homes, or to places they believe are safer." Ambassador Jovanović said.
The Ambassador also stated that the embassy is in constant contact with Serbian citizens and that it has invited everyone who plans to leave Ukraine to call in and inform the embassy about any problems they might encounter during their trip.
Ambassador Jovanović noted that yesterday the embassy was contacted by a Serbian citizen who was stopped at 10 checkpoints on his way from Kiev to the Ukrainian border crossing where he finally exited the country.
The Ambassador pointed out that two days ago the situation in Kiev was quite calm during the night, and that last night several detonations were heard - probably when the TV tower was destroyed, whilst this morning more detonations were heard in the distance.
Ambassador Jovanović said that Kiev is practically half-empty and that yesterday there was a lot traffic on the roads leading out of the capital.
