Political relations

Bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and Hungary are substantial and very intensive.The positive trend in the development of relations was successfully crowned by joint sessions of the two governments held in Belgrade (1 July 2014), Budapest (1 July 2015), Niš (20 – 21 November 2016), Budapest (8 – 9 February 2018), Subotica (15 April 2019) and Budapest (8-9 September 2021). During 2021, the Republic of Serbia was visited by the Prime Minister of Hungary V. Orbán and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary P. Szijjártó and Hungary by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia A. Brnabić and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia N. Selaković. In 2020, the Republic of Serbia was visited by the Prime Minister of Hungary V. Orbán, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary P. Szijjártó and Hungary by the President of the Republic of Serbia A. Vučić. 

Economic relations

According to the data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, total trade in goods with Hungary in 2025 amounted to EUR 3.4 billion, of which exports from the Serbia accounted for EUR 1.5 billion, while imports amounted to EUR 1.9 billion.

Among the investments made by Hungarian companies in Serbia so far, the oil and gas distribution company MOL, ATP Bank, Masterplast YU, Knott AutoflexYug, Mini Pani and Tisza Automotive stand out.

Bilateral agreements

The Republic of Serbia and Hungary have signed 153 bilateral agreements, of which we single out:

  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of Hungary on the improvement of Serbia's integration into the European Union, signed: 10 June 2010;

  • Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of Hungary on mutual recognition of state-recognized public documents on the level of education issued in the Republic of Serbia and Hungary, signed: 15 April 2019;

  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Innovation and Technology of Hungary on the upgrade of the railway line between Subotica and Szeged, signed: 15 April 2019;

  • Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of Hungary on cooperation in the construction, management, maintenance, reconstruction and rehabilitation of the gas pipeline for the transport of natural gas crossing the state border, signed: 14 June 2019;

  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary on the joint use of the premises of diplomatic and consular missions of the two countries, signed: 18 December 2020;

  • Agreement on cordial relations and strategic partnership between the two countries, signed: 8 September 2021.
