Political relations

Yugoslavia and Guyana had developed friendly relations and cooperation, particularly through activities as part of the Non-Aligned Movement. Due to the outbreak of the crisis in former Yugoslavia, contacts and cooperation have weakened. As part of Serbia’s activities to renew cooperation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time Vuk Jeremić visited Georgetown on 13 July 2011.

In October 2021, Minister of Labour of Guyana J. Hamilton has participated in the work of the High-Level Commemorative Meeting to mark the 60th anniversary of the First Conference of Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia N. Selakovic had a bilateral meeting with Minister Hamilton during his stay in Belgrade.

 

Economic relations

In 2020 export was registered amounting to 28,000 euros and import 2,000 euros. Trade in goods during 2019 amounted to 9,000 euros, with export amounting to 5,000 euros and import to 4,000 euros.

 

Bilateral agreements

  • Agreement on technical cooperation between the Government of SFRY and the Republic of Guyana, signed on 3 February 1971 (The Official Gazette, No. 55/197 – Addendum, 16 May 1971)
  • Agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the FEC of SFRY and the Government of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, signed on 16 April 1985 (The Official Gazette of SFRY – International Agreements)
