Đurić confers with UK Special Envoy for the Western Balkans

24. May 2025.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, met today in Dayton with the United Kingdom’s Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Baroness Karen Pierce.

During the meeting, Minister Đurić noted that bilateral relations between Serbia and the United Kingdom are good and emphasized that there is considerable potential for their further enhancement—a view also echoed during the recent visit of UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy to Belgrade.

Minister Đurić expressed appreciation for the UK’s interest in broadening the framework of bilateral consultations and welcomed the initiative to extend cooperation across a wider range of areas.

A substantial part of the discussion was dedicated to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija. Minister Đurić drew attention to what he described as the systematic violation of the rights of the Serbian population, which he said continues to unfold in full view of the international community and poses a serious threat to regional stability.

He provided a detailed overview of the latest wave of unilateral actions by the authorities in Pristina in northern Kosovo and Metohija, underscoring that the safety and well-being of the Serb community—currently among the most vulnerable ethnic groups in Europe—must be treated as an absolute priority.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on the overall political and security environment in the Western Balkans. On this occasion, Minister Đurić reiterated that Serbia remains a pillar of regional stability and development and continues to implement a constructive political and economic agenda towards its neighbors.
