Potential for strengthening economic cooperation between Serbia and Brazil
Expressing satisfaction with the friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries and peoples, the interlocutors agreed on the need to work together to further strengthen ties through high- and top-level visits, closer cooperation between the ministries of foreign affairs, diplomatic academies and young diplomats, as well as through the development of a contractual and legal framework.
Ambassador Couto delivered a congratulatory message from Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira to Minister Marko Đurić on the occasion of his reappointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs. On this occasion, Kozarev informed the ambassador about the activities of the new Government of Serbia.
He also spoke about current developments in the region, particularly in Bosnia and Herzegovina, expressing his belief that the current heightened tensions will subside and that solutions will be reached through dialogue.
Regarding the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, Kozarev emphasized that the situation is highly complex and fragile, primarily due to the unilateral actions of Albin Kurti’s administration, which have exposed the Serbian population to significant pressure.
He stated that Serbia’s red lines are very clear, while also noting that Belgrade remains open to dialogue. He expressed hope that the new EU Special Representative for the Belgrade–Pristina Dialogue, Peter Sørensen, would help revive some key issues.
In updating the ambassador on internal matters, Kozarev explained that very specific processes have been unfolding in Serbian society in the aftermath of the tragedy in Novi Sad, including an attempted color revolution that failed with the March 15 rally. He noted that these events had an impact on Serbia’s economy, but assured that Serbia remains focused on development and progress, committed to its European integration path, and above all, dedicated to preserving peace and stability both domestically and throughout the region.
Kozarev thanked Brazil for its firm stance and support on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, explaining that Brazil’s support in international forums is of particular importance given its global influence.
The meeting also addressed the enhancement of cooperation in the fields of agribusiness, livestock breeding, biofuel production and utilization, as well as the potential for strengthening cooperation between Serbia’s national airline, Air Serbia, and the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer.
