Political relations Friendly relations date back to the period of the struggle for independence from Portugal. At that time, Yugoslavia, as part of its policy of supporting liberation movements, provided comprehensive support for the struggle of the people of Guinea-Bissau (which at the time formed a single entity with Cabo Verde). There was also ideological solidarity with the socialist-oriented party. Political contacts were renewed with the visit of First Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić to Guinea-Bissau in December 2017. The then Prime Minister, and later President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, visited Serbia in 2017 and again in 2023 in his capacity as President of Guinea-Bissau. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Fatoumata Djau, visited Belgrade on 31 August and 1 September 2026 to participate in the Commemorative Meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade. On that occasion, she met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić. Economic relations According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, total trade in goods with Guinea-Bissau in 2025 amounted to EUR 4 thousand and consisted entirely of imports, while exports from the Republic of Serbia were absent. Bilateral agreements Agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the Government of SFRY and Government of Guinea Bissau, date of coming into force: 6 February 1978. Agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the Government of SFR Yugoslavia and Government of Guinea Bissau, date of coming into force: 26 December 1980. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau on the Abolition of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic, Official and Special Passports.
